About Us

Kevin Turkington
Kevin M. Turkington
MSHC Founder & President

For most of us, there will come a time in our lives when some of the seemingly simple, everyday tasks will become too difficult to manage on our own. So where does that leave us?

For many it seemed, the only option was saying good-bye to familiar surroundings and the comfort and security of home to face the reality of an assisted living facility or nursing home.

In 2002, I was given the opportunity to take a look at my own life in terms of what was important to me and what I could do that would make a difference and bring the most joy and satisfaction.

As a long time Alaskan and Pioneer with many years in service to Alaskans, I have a strong value in a person's right to choice and independence. With that value and driven by a strong desire to be of service, I joined The Senior's Choice, North America's oldest and most established membership organization of independent care providers.

The "Un-franchise" organization, The Senior's Choice was created for one reason: to give people Choices. From that experience and shared beliefs, on July 12, 2002, I opened the doors of Senior Care of Alaska Inc now known as, Midnight Sun Home Care Inc.

I knew in the beginning that in order to give and be the best, it would take not only a commitment to customer first service, but also to continuing education, ongoing involvement in the community and an alignment with those in health care who also demand ethics and straightforward honesty in what they say and do.

At Midnight Sun Home Care Inc, we are proud of our connections with the community and our accomplishments.

In 2002, I joined the board of directors of (OPAG) The Older Persons Action Group, established in 1968, they are dedicated to the advocacy of senior Alaskans and their families. Since 1973, OPAG continues to produce the award winning Senior Voice newspaper. I have helped guide OPAG as President of this board since 2003.

In 2004, I obtained certification from the Society of Certified Senior Advisors, (SCSA) better equipping me in understanding the key health, social and financial factors that are important to seniors'and how these factors work together.

Service to Seniors AwardIn 2007, I was given the prestigious Community Citizen Award by the SCSA.  I received the award during the 2007 CSA International Summit in Las Vegas. The service to seniors awards program recognizes and honors senior advisors for their passion, commitment, caring and can-do attitude in volunteering for seniors.  I was awarded for my work with OPAG.

I also understand that life is 24/7.  As quoted recently in Alaska Business Monthly:

"This is a critical piece of the whole business of providing care to the elderly," said Turkington. "Life is 24 hours a day, and our clients may need help 24 hours a day. They call us--even at 3 a.m.--and we answer the phone."

Midnight Sun Home Care's President, Kevin M. Turkington and his father, Phil TurkingtonWhat we do here at Midnight Sun Home Care Inc became even more personal when I lost my father Phil Turkington, to cancer May 23, 2007.

I am so grateful that my siblings and I were able to be there for him. He was a great entrepreneur and a great man of the community. We want to be your in-home care company.
